Even the most 'enlightened' medical schools that have evaluated various
forms of 'alternative' medicine, warn strongly against
herbs.

Few examples of problems: allergies, interference with other
medications, and mostly they just don't work.

I don't mean to challeng your professional opinion, but I believe that
traditional medicines that have been use for milennia by homo sapiens
as well as other primates and other mammals, must have some
effectiveness.

I think that those among them which have been proven effective have been
mainstreamed into "modern" medicine during the patent land grab of the last
hundred years, often by testing and then isolating the component that
actually provides the benefit, and then manufacturing that as a
pharmaceutical.

What remains is largely the stuff that nobody ever managed to prove effective.

Or is downright harmful/dangerous.

There's an odd tendency to equate natural with wholesome
by all too many people who seem to forget such 'natural'
products as poison ivy, deadly nightshade and death cap
fungi.

Every year that goes by sees people admitted to hospital emergency
rooms as a result of taking 'natural herbal remedies'
