Even since the eco-nuts decided that it's a sin to clean up dead, dry
foliage and downed trees (thank you Al Gore), more and worse fires
have been happening in California, regardless of how they started. San
Diego, the several fires since and the ones this year seem to bear
that out. Preserving the natural environment, no matter how
dangerous, is evidently more important a few thousand houses and
lives lost. Some of these idiot groups are even against mosquito
control. What's a little yellow and Nile fever compared to the rights
of insects?
This will go on until on of the leaders of the tree huggers has a
place burned to the ground by this eco-stupidity (What? Clear brush
from around my house? No, no, it's not the natural way.) at which
time that person will sue the government for not removing the brush
and downed trees, calling the rest of us criminals for not having
done it in time to save the house.
It's the typical way liberals turn into conservatives, just like ACLU
members who become victims of violent crimes and want to hang the
suspect from the nearest bridge, rights be damned. I've seen it
happen (not the hangings) more times than I can count.

Skip,
Glad to hear that you are okay. A good friend of ours lost his home
in the Sylmar fire yesterday.
On the looters, according to the news reports, a man was evacuating
and realized that he had forgotten something important and turned
around and went back to his house. There he found two women from
North Hollywood looting his home and putting his valuables into their
SUV.
Another one of his neighbors came over to see what was going on and
they detained the two women and called 911. Police came and arrested
the two women on the spot.
It's been a bad weekend here throughout the Southland but it is good
to know that you are safe.
Hope to see you in Vegas one of these days.

About an hour after the '94 Northridge earthquake I saw a couple of
looters inside a store in Sherman Oaks and was tempted to shoot them.
Before I got out of the car, part of the structure fell, killing one
of them. Justice served for him and no federal civil rights
prosecution for me. These morons drove all the way from Long Beach to
Van Nuys to see what they could get. One got a grave and the other
got 9 years.
When our fairly new chief of police, Fat Willie from Philly,, finally
came out from hiding in his house about 12 hours after the earthquake,
he gave a press conference and told the world that there had been no
looting in "his" city. Strange he should say that when about 50
looters were arrested in the first few hours after the quake.
Oh, well...

The most serious and most obvious reason that California suffers more
destruction from fires than in the past is all of those McMansion houses
that have been built in the last ten years or so in canyons and areas that
should never have seen any construction in the first place. They're in
natural wind tunnels and naturally super dry areas. Fire in those areas is
as inevitable as hurricanes along the Gulf coast; especially when you
consider that most of the destructive fires we've seen have been set by
humans and not caused by lightening. If you build in dangerous areas
you'll pay for it, especially when you bring fire happy kooks into the mix.
And if there were no houses, the plethora of SoCal arsonists would either
find someplace else to have their fun or would be tempted by only dry grass.

Damn, Skip. Best of luck to you in CA. If the fires spread to over
here, I just may join you at MSS.
--EE--
EE, I think you are safe until someone sets another "controlled burn"
and it gets out of hand again or maybe that was AZ and not NM.
MSS was sounding pretty good but the wind and smoke have died down,
the sky is blue and there isn't much ash falling. Plus, the media is
no longer concerned with us as all their coverage seems to be on the
fires 60-100 miles south east of LA.
Last night my youngest daughter packed her stuff and asked me to put
it in my truck if we were evacuated. Then left for a few hours of
clubbing - you can tell she was concerned.
The cars are unloaded now and the only sign of anything around here is
the bottom of my pool covered in black ash. Well, that's what
automatic pool cleaners are for.
There will probably be another fire around here as soon as the brush
grows back and people continue to do stupid things. And, we are in
the middle of the fire season but then the fire season around here
runs all year long.
5 looters were arrested last night in one of the evacuated areas
around here. Too bad they weren't shot, the scum that they are.

My brother lives in Canyon Country showed me the footage he took from the
camera. Looked pretty bad along the 210 but the fire fighters continue to
amaze me. My GF told me you could see the glow from Burbank all over the
sky.
Glad to see you are OK. Saw what it did to that mobil home park.
Stay in touch until fire is completely out ok? We are getting the KCAL feed
here in LV and the web is going a great job as well.
If you have video cam on your computer let me know I we can hook up.

The fire is pretty much out here but was still burning last night east
of the 5 and north of the 210, 6-7 miles from us. I don't have a
video cam but even if I did, the ash and smoke was too thick for any
pictures to show the fire from here. |
