It seems there are fires about 1 mile north of where I live near
Sylmar and Granada Hills, CA. We are all packed for evacuation. If
we have to go I think I'm going to pick the evacuation center about
280 miles east of here, MSS in Las Vegas.

Good call. You could hide behind the micro-brew vats for protection.

Damn, Skip. Best of luck to you in CA. If the fires spread to over
here, I just may join you at MSS.

I should be safe, but if the winds kick up again, I may join you at
MSS.

No, that was here. The 'Sierra Grande' fire, near Los Alamos.
Biggest fire I have ever seen. People were worried that it would
cause a meltdown at Los Alamos Labs... not that there is anything
nuclear there or anything. :>)

But I am talking about the CA fires. Seems the smoke could travel
here to NM and make me want to go to Vegas for safety. Yeah, that's
the ticket! Cough, cough. Hey, I am getting some smoke now. Maybe I
should "evacuate".

Quote:
MSS was sounding pretty good but the wind and smoke have died down,
the sky is blue and there isn't much ash falling. Plus, the media is
no longer concerned with us as all their coverage seems to be on the
fires 60-100 miles south east of LA.

Last night my youngest daughter packed her stuff and asked me to put
it in my truck if we were evacuated.  Then left for a few hours of
clubbing -  you can tell she was concerned.

Hey, priorities.

Quote:
The cars are unloaded now and the only sign of anything around here is
the bottom of my pool covered in black ash.  Well, that's what
automatic pool cleaners are for.

There will probably be another fire around here as soon as the brush
grows back and people continue to do stupid things.  And, we are in
the middle of the fire season but then the fire season around here
runs all year long.

That's crazy. I remember the Santa Ana winds back when I was living
in Malibu, but they didn't ALWAYS cause a fire, even though the risk
was very high. I remember the Santa Anas blowing all that smog out to
the ocean. Felt kinda good if there were no fires.

5 looters were arrested last night in one of the evacuated areas
around here.  Too bad they weren't shot, the scum that they are.

What a bunch of pricks. Nice to have good neighbors, eh (or were they
from outside of the 'hood)?

Yep, that's always a good plan. As a matter of fact, I may incorporate
MSS as the meeting place in the next fire drill we conduct.

They don't cause fires but the do bring in hot, dry air from the
desert that dries out everything making all the plants more
combustible.

I don't know but it was pretty difficult to get into the evacuation
areas. 7I'm sorry I wasn't the one that caught them.

Skip,

Glad to hear that you are okay. A good friend of ours lost his home
in the Sylmar fire yesterday.

On the looters, according to the news reports, a man was evacuating
and realized that he had forgotten something important and turned
around and went back to his house. There he found two women from
North Hollywood looting his home and putting his valuables into their
SUV.

Another one of his neighbors came over to see what was going on and
they detained the two women and called 911. Police came and arrested
the two women on the spot.

It's been a bad weekend here throughout the Southland but it is good
to know that you are safe.

Hope to see you in Vegas one of these days.

Sounds good but while there is a need for STH about anywhere, I don't
think STF would do very well in Las Vegas or southern Nevada for that
matter.
