A follow up question:

When traveling from one EU country to another is it still advisable to
arrive to the airport 2 hours early?

If everything is normal (no strikes, fine weather, not the first day of
the national holiday season, no terrorist alarm), then two hours in
advance is too much. One hour should be OK.

However, there are days when not everything is normal.

I tend to, so personally I'd say yes. I'm sure you'll get some people
who turn up with less time than that. Some airlines require you to be at
check-in an hour before (e.g. FlyBe) and I think it's better to be on
the safe side. If you are printing your own boarding pass, this is maybe
less of an issue...

The high price of bottled water has probably been the case
for a long time in continental Europe. Long years ago, its
price in small bottles was comparable with beer, which is
probably logical since the labor costs are about the same.

In NL the contents are very similar too.

LOL, I didn't want to say that to avoid having to discuss Belgian beers
like Stella Artois (now very much the Budweiser of Belgium.)

I'd better make my position clear. I don't find Stella much better than
Dutch
beer and I dislike intensely the way InBev and Heineken have bought up
good
breweries.

Is it the hops, or does Stella have a strangely strong smell when you open a
bottle. I don't notice it in draught.

not agreeing with you. I do think he whinged a bit, but his comments were
not totally OTT.

The preflight safety instructions given to passengers on every flight I
have
ever been on have always included stuff about air masks dropping down in
the
event of loss of pressure and how to use the masks.

The intrepid explorer was talking bollocks.

I agree entirely. I have been on an aircraft which experienced sudden
depressurisation. It wasn't a pleasant experience but I put on the oxygen
mask. I find it difficult to visualise how the flight attendants could make
a P.A. announcement whilst wearing a mask.

I find it difficult to figure out how the complainant was able to
observe what was going around him in such detail given as he claimed his
oxygen mask wasn't working!

Because it wasn't an instantaneous decompression.

I'd say it's more likely he was just wrong. Flight attendants who've
been in such situations report this is common.

The point he made is something that's always bothered me. How hard do you
actually "firmly tug" the tube? Seriously.

I don't think that's the problem. The problem is the expectation that
passengers will feel a rush of air, and when they don't, assume it's
faulty, and _then_ start yanking too hard. This of course could be
mentioned in the pre-flight stuff (it's sort of hinted at I suppose by
"breathe normally") but in a real emergency you'd still get lots of
passengers worrying about it. I've got a hunch that more passengers
would have reboarded the onward flight to Girona had it not been for he
Spanair crash a few days earlier. It's human nature, I realise, but the
passengers who went by bus to Girona were at greater risk of injury or
death than those flying...

off?

Carl
A taxi would be enormously expense. A rental car just expensive.

The one time we took a taxi, from Naestved to Menstrop (in 1999) about
5
miles, was only about $10. Public transit in Denmark is relatively
cheap, so trains and taxis were cheaper than renting a car and paying
for fuel and parking.

Taking a taxi being cheaper than renting is likely to be due to the
very
high cost of renting in Denmark (presumably due to the very very high
taxes that Denmark imposes upon owing a car).

Just about every Dane I met told me about the 180% sales tax on new
cars.
They say you pay for three cars but you only get one.

But as a result the net prices from the car factories are very low in
Denmark so it's usually a good business to buy a tax-free car in Denmark
for
export.

I thought the EU had put an end to that?
Martin

There're countries also outside the EU.
But anyway I think you've to pay car tax where the car is to be registered
leaving VAT to be paid in Denmark. And I've seen many times that it's a
good business for a foreigner to buy a car from Denmark.

AFAIK the base price is more or less the same all over the EU now. In the past
many bought cars tax free in Denmark and paid the VAT & car taxes in their home
country.

I wouldn't call it stunning, either. I found it depressing and awkward with
