to calgary the first week of december.

If you have good winter tires and are an experienced winter driver, then
no, it shouldn't be bad, although I would allow for double the summer
driving time or more if there is a blizzard.

That stretch of highway is always busy and as a result is reasonably
well maintained and gets frequent snow removal when needed, but anything
can happen.

It's also a $49+tax flight (each direction) on Westjet, so if you aren't
comfortable with the drive, hop a flight and be done with it.
