There are quite a few places in Norhtern Arizona that aren't
alive with photographers.

normally anywhere a few miles from a road is quiet!

One thing we have in Arizona is miles and miles away from roads.
Especially paved roads. Bombing down dirt roads isn't always for
the faint of heart, though.

When I was a kid I always liked looking at the pics in _Arizona Highways_
magazine...they are still around:

The magazine is widely available here. It was a Christmas issue
of Arizona Highways that brought me and my first wife to Arizona
in 1966. I was going to graduate school at McGill University in
Montreal, and one day in January 1966 my wife asked if I couldn't
possibly go to school in a warmer climate. A few days later we
were in a drugstore while she looked for cosmetics and I checked
out the magazines. I picked up the issue of Arizona Highways and
noticed sections called "The year it snowed" and "The year it
rained". I showed it to my wife and we figured we wanted to go
somewhere that made a big deal out of having had some snow, and I
ended up at the University of Arizona.

I still have that issue of Arizona Highways.

Nice. What are you paying in rent for that thing?

it was only for two days so we didnt worry too much. It was from Europecar.
About £110 for two days. The thing with Europcar is to keep trying
different cars till you get a pay in advance offer that looks good. Quotes
range for stupidly high to stupidly low. They belong to VW group so Audis
and VWs tend to be good and alfas in Italy.

nice! It would be too hot for me but we all have different ideas. I would
appreciate the photographic qualities of the landscape though.

Funny place that Arizona: paved roads are miles and miles away from roads.

Whatever, it isn't in Europe.

I think its confusion over "miles away from roads" and "especially paved"
wrongly conflated with "dirt roads...faint hearted". I like places where
you can drive on dirt roads out into semi wilderness, none of it here I'm
afraid. Still a little in Spain.
